Sheep Skewer
Sheep Skewer
Skewers of mini cubes of sheep meat.
They represent a product typically linked to the pastoral tradition of Abruzzo. They are said to have been invented by two shepherds around 1930 in the eastern area of the Gran Sasso. Originally they were called "rustelle", i.e. small roasts. In fact, the best way to enjoy them is on live embers but if this is not available, they can be cooked both in the oven and in a pan. Just add a pinch of salt and they are ready to eat, but if you wish you can add oil, pepper and rosemary.
